2019 Nissan Altima Review: More Compelling Than Ever

2019 Nissan Altima Review

The Nissan Altima, since its inauguration into the US market in 1992, has been known as one of the most affordable midsize sedans. The model itself has seen many rounds of continuous improvement, yet it still relies on its foundational qualities. Though the 2019 model varies far from its original voyage, it still stays true to the characteristics of Altima’s past.

The 2019 Altima is the first model to offer optional all-wheel drive. Adding AWD to the base, 2.5-liter engine comes with a $1,350 premium. The 2.5-liter engine, though it’s considered “base,” has been redeveloped by Nissan, with over 80 percent of the engine’s parts being new. Because of this upgrade, both power and fuel efficiency increase. The 2.5-liter engine creates 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, combined with a fuel economy rating of 32 miles per gallon.

The Altima is also offered with a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo I4 engine that produces 248 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Nissan estimates the VC-Turbo will return 29 mpg combined. The VC-Turbo engine is offered as a $4,050 upgrade on the SR model or as an $3,000 upgrade on the top-level Platinum. Regardless of model, each Altima comes with a continuously variable transmission. The transmission does a terrific job modeling an automatic gearbox, only with simulated gear changes.

Regardless of which Altima you choose, you’ll receive an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Navigation is available on higher trims. Although the 2019 model doesn’t offer Wi-Fi hotspot, a popular feature amongst modern cars, it does however provide two modern USB Type-C ports, as well as two normal USB Type-A connectors.

On the outside, the 2019 Altima is longer, lower and wider than previous models. Nissan confirmed the design was heavily influenced by the company’s VMotion 2.0 concept, originally displayed at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. Though it’s been reduced since the original showing, it still retains the Altima’s front fascia and LED lighting. Because the Altima has a longer wheelbase, there’s more room for passengers. In the back, the Altima offers 15.4 cubic feet of trunk space, which is plenty considering its size.

Nissan’s New Standard Safety Tech

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2018
Nissan Safety Tech

Nissan, in an attempt to help reduce and prevent common types of collisions, is committed to offering safety features that are typically expensive optional extras in all best-selling models by 2021. Nissan is targeting many different safety extras, including, lane keeping assists, blind spot detection and forward collision warnings. Each of these traditional extras will be offered as standard equipment.

Nissan’s North American Chairman, Denis Le Vot, stated, regarding the new safety plan, “Our philosophy is to bring Nissan intelligent mobility technologies to market in our most popular and affordable vehicles.” In theory, the commitment to safety is a fantastic strategy, not only from a strategic marketing strategy. Family’s tend to continually value safety when buying newer vehicles and by committing to continuous safety improvement, Nissan cements itself as a global partner in keeping drivers and vehicles safe. Le Vot later added, “Safety Shield 360 combines six advanced systems to give models like Altima and Rogue a class-leading package of technologies that can improve safety and the overall driving experience for Nissan owners.”

Nissan Safety Shield 360 features many safety technologies including front, rear and side sensors, including Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, which uses forward-facing radar and camera technology to track vehicles and pedestrians and potentially give audible and visual warnings. Applying the brakes to help avoid or reduce the severity of frontal collisions is also an added feature. Lane departure warnings alert drivers when they drift between lanes, also with audible and visual cues. High beam assist automatically switches headlights to low beam when a vehicle is approaching, as well as shifting back when that vehicle passes. Nissan is also pledging to include side sensing technologies including blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert, which warns drivers about approaching vehicles when in reverse. And finally, rear automatic braking also helps the driver detect stationary objects when backing up and has the potential to apply the brakes.

Road Show says, “Honestly, it’s refreshing to drive a car like the Nissan 370Z today. There’s no touchscreen interface or center console controller. There aren’t any flashing lights or audible beeps. It’s a simple and honest sports car that still packs impressive performance chops and asks the driver to drive.”

According to Edmunds, “No matter what version you get, the Z is about balancing handling with power. You sit low so that you can feel the road. The suspension is appropriately stiff but helps the car to corner flat with minimal brake dive. The steering is communicative and direct, and the engine is torquey.”

Cars.com has this to say, “For 2019, Nissan has slightly updated its three 370Z models — including the coupe, NISMO coupe and roadster — with minor feature additions and a couple of new colors added to the mix. The best part? Starting prices for each of the models is unchanged for the new model year.”

The 200 horsepower output will be great for the E-Plus, but you will also get an extended range. The Nissan Altima’s Latest Edition

Monday, June 25th, 2018

The Nissan Altima is coming up with an updated version for the 2019 model year. What exciting changes are to come in the 2019 Nissan Altima? Let’s find out below.

Under the hood, the base engine of the 2019 Nissan Altima remains the same as the previous year. It will still be a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated I-4 engine. However, the 2019 Altima is getting a new engine option to replace the current 3.5-liter V6 engine. To replace this engine, you can get an all-new 2.0-liter turbo-four engine that gives you 248-horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Either of these engine options will be mated to a “Xtronic” CVT automatic transmission.

Another exciting addition to the 2019 Nissan Altima is Nissan’s ProPilot Assist. This is new technology from Nissan that makes driving easier on drivers by providing them with a hands-on driver assist system. It is a step toward self-driving.

According to Nissan, “ProPILOT Assist uses a forward-facing camera, forward-facing radar, sensors and electronic control module to help the driver stay in the center of the driving lane and to maintain vehicle speed (set by the driver) or help maintain a gap to the preceding vehicle if the vehicle speed drops below the driver-set speed. It also can slow the vehicle to a complete stop and holds the vehicle during traffic jam conditions.”

The 2019 Nissan Altima will also have some great technology features like a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free, and more. Next, let’s take a look at the styling on the 2019 Nissan Altima.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, “Regarding styling, the new Altima is longer, lower and wider than the outgoing model while riding a 1.9-inch longer wheelbase. The haberdashery includes the “V”-mouth grille with which Nissan has become enamored, along with black-accented C-pillars already evident on the likes of Murano and Maxima.”

According to Nissan, “The new Altima follows the 2018 LEAF in embodying the vision of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, making vehicles more desirable by re-defining how they are driven, powered and integrated into society. A key component is ProPILOT Assist, a single-lane “hands-on” driving assistance technology that eases driver workload by reducing the amount of driver acceleration, steering and braking input under certain driving conditions, such as single-lane highway driving. ProPILOT Assist is standard on the 2019 Altima SV, SL and Platinum grades.”

As for the exterior of this vehicle, the new Altima is 1.1 inches lower, 1 inch longer and 0.9 inches wider. It also has some added exterior style.

“Among available exterior features are the V-motion grille with dark chrome finish, LED projector headlights with Daytime Running Lights, LED fog lights, a “floating” roof with slim pillars and a single-panel moon roof. Exterior color choices include deep-tinted Scarlet Ember red, which changes hue with the light, and Sunset Drift orange, which has a unique reflective pigment,” explains My San Antonio.

What We Can Look Forward To

According to Road Show, “During a recording of Autoline After Hours, a weekly auto industry-focused internet show, Nissan’s Christopher Reed alluded to the sixth-generation Altima receiving an important new feature in its arsenal: all-wheel drive. Reed, who is vice president of components engineering at Nissan Technical Center North America, was actually on Thursday’s show to talk about the 2018 Leaf EV.”

Reed let slip what may be a great feature on the Altima, but other than all-wheel drive, what can we find on this vehicle?

Features for the New Nissan Altima
